MARINA, Monterey County — October 27, 2026. The Marina Municipal Airport is more than an airstrip. The city describes an approximately 845.5-acre property with general aviation and potential for aviation businesses, light industry and related development.
Why a master plan matters
The city’s public land-use page says its Airport Master Plan is undergoing an update, alongside an existing Airport Business and Industrial Park / UC MBEST Center Specific Plan and airport zoning rules. The master plan informs longer-term operational and development decisions, but an update is not automatically approval for a particular factory, terminal, flight operation or land lease.
Since reopening for public use in 1995, the former military facility has been used for civilian general aviation. Its growth plans interact with federal aviation standards, noise compatibility, business development and conservation concerns.
What local residents can check
Applicants should review the airport zoning map, allowed uses, FAA guidance and any site-specific environmental review. Nearby residents may wish to monitor runway and roadway impacts, potential employment, emergency-response capacity and the extent to which development revenue supports local services. For announced aviation projects, review final permits rather than conceptual plans.

Editorial note: The city describes an ongoing master-plan process, not a newly approved facility.
