MARINA, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Two large recreation projects are moving through different stages of development in Marina. City Park at Sea Haven is under construction with an estimated July 2027 finish, while City Park at the Dunes remains in pre-construction with a tentative June 2028 completion, according to the city’s latest project overview. Their combined preliminary budgets total $25.2 million, but the city reports different funding and maintenance arrangements for each.
Sea Haven: pickleball, disc golf and dog areas
The $6 million Sea Haven neighborhood park is planned within the area bounded by Abrams Drive, Denali Drive, Imjin Parkway and Marina Heights Drive. The published design includes an inclusive play area, eight pickleball courts, dog parks, a nine-hole disc golf course, walking trails and community space. Marina says the developer contributed approximately $3 million to construction and that the city’s remaining portion is allocated in the municipal budget. The Sea Haven Homeowners Association is expected to maintain the park once completed.
The city places Sea Haven in the under-construction category. Amenities described in renderings should not be interpreted as open for public use until the responsible officials confirm completion and access.
The Dunes: a larger inclusive playground
The proposed City Park at the Dunes includes a 34,000-plus-square-foot all-inclusive playground, a tennis court, picnic areas, a National Fitness Court and a connection to the planned Marina Aquatic & Recreation Center. The city’s announced budget is $19.2 million and the target completion is June 2028. The current status is pre-construction, with a tentative groundbreaking in early 2027.
The city expects a community-build element in the playground project and plans public art representing the region. These are intentions within the current project description, not evidence that volunteer opportunities are accepting applicants today.
Community input and naming
Marina separately invited city residents to submit proposals for the names of three parks by December 31, 2026. That naming process includes Sea Haven, the Dunes and Hilltop Park; it does not determine their construction schedules. Read Marina News’ earlier reporting on the naming campaign.
For the recreation center proposed nearby, see our independent report on the city’s $42 million project and its 2029 estimate.
