MARINA, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Drivers using southbound Highway 1 near Reservation Road should plan for a short daytime lane restriction on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27–28. In a notice issued October 26, Caltrans District 5 said crews will remove accumulated sand from the roadway, closing the southbound No. 2 (left) lane just south of the Reservation Road junction.

The work is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days. Caltrans expects possible delays of up to 10 minutes, with electronic and directional signs warning approaching motorists. The highway is not described as fully closed: the announcement concerns one southbound lane. The schedule could change if conditions or operational needs require adjustments.

Why the location matters

Reservation Road is a major connection between Marina and the Highway 1 corridor. Residents traveling toward Monterey and businesses serving Highway 1 motorists should distinguish this lane restriction from a full road closure; the agency’s notice does not announce a detour for all southbound traffic.

Check conditions before leaving

Drivers can consult Caltrans QuickMap for current road conditions rather than relying solely on an advance construction notice. This is a planned operation, not a claim that crews have already closed the lane.
